Description

Mount Larkins is a Grade 1 climb, located just before Glenorchy on the highway between Queenstown and Glenorchy. My plan is to leave Dunedin early (8am) on the saturday morning and walk into kellys hut via the Judah track.

From there, we get up early on sunday morning and make a push to the summit of larkins. Return via the same route or over top of mt alaska.

Getting There

Car pooling from Dunedin, it is roughly a 4.5 hour drive to the track start at the Mt Judah Recreational Trail car park. Folks from central area will be a shorter drive and should be able to coordinate rides to the carpark.

What to Expect

The track to kelly hut is an old mining track with a fairly gradual gradient. Some folks may want to Mtn bike up this track as far as Heather jock to hut. I expect a walk of around 4 to 5 hours.

The hut itself is privately owned so we will all need camping equipment.

Mt Larkins itself sits at 2300, roughly 400m of vert from the proposed camp near kelly hut. I would expect 7-9 hour day on the Sunday then a drive home.

I'm not too sure we would expect too much snow this time of year, so im guessing it would be more of a scramble.
