Description
This trip is to Big Hut in the Rock and Pillar Range to go snow shoeing or skiing. Mountaineering skills are not required but you will need to know how to look after yourself in a winter alpine environment.We will drive from Dunedin and should be at Big Hut around lunch time.
Depending on weather and snow conditions we will then explore.
You will need to bring your own food but we will try and organize food groups to minimize the number of people cooking in the small kitchen.
Getting There
We will will car pool from Dunedin. Passengers to contribute to vehicle running cost.What to Expect
Good company, exercise and mountain air.Possible Hazards
Exposure due to high winds and low temperatures.Sunburn snow blindness - bring sunglasses or snow goggles.
Gear
Warm winter clothing for alpine travel.PLB if you have one.
