Description

This 2-day course will be run by a professional instructor from Dunedin Adventures Ltd on local Dunedin crags and will provide instruction on lead climbing and belaying on sport (bolted) climbing routes.

Open to all NZAC members who are 18 years and over.

Note: Participants must know how to top rope climb and belay before attending this course.  If you do not know how to top rope climb and belay you will need to attend an Intro Rock Climbing course.

Cost is $210 per person (Note: normally costs $280 but the OSONZAC is subsidising the course for members).
 
Time: Approx 9:30am - 4pm Sat and Sun -  to be confirmed closer to the time




Getting There

The instructor will advise of location and timing details prior to course.

What to Expect

Instruction in:
How to lead climb on a sport (bolted) climbing route.
How to belay a lead climber on a sport route.
How to set up and clean anchors on sport routes.

Possible Hazards

Rockfall - there is potential for loose rock on all Dunedin crags.  Helmets are mandatory and must be worn while climbing and while belaying or standing below climbs.

Falls - lead climbing does involve to potential to fall from above your last piece of protection (bolt in the case of this course).  Falls in sport climbing are generally very safe and usually do not result in serious injury but as in all forms of rock climbing there is potential for serious accidents to occur.

Weather: Be prepared for either warm or cold weather.  The weather is very changeable in Dunedin and may change during the day.



Gear

Participants should bring their own personal climbing gear - including Helmets, Harness, Belay Device, Climbing shoes.  If you have quickdraws - please bring these but otherwise the instructor will provide ropes and quickdraws.  Please advise instructor if you require helmets, harness or climbing shoes.
