Description
Mt Wakefield is a grade 1 climb in the Mt Cook range. A good level of fitness is required.
Plan A is to travel to
Mt Cook on Saturday morning and walk into campsite in the afternoon at
about 1650m. We will climb Wakefield on Sunday then drive home in the
evening. Plan B is to stay in Mt Cook village (e.g. Unwin Lodge) and climb Wakefield in a single push if weather conditions are poor.
Experience with ice axe and crampons (snowcraft 1 or equivalent) required.

A big day out with magic views of the Hooker and Tasman valleys and Mt Sefton.Possible Hazards
Weather conditions deteriorating, avalanches.
Risk to be assessed on Wednesday 22 before finalising the game plan.
Gear
Overnight gear (tent, sleeping bag, stove etc), helmet, crampons, ice axe.
Dress code: bright-coloured tops are highly appreciated by your trip leader/photographer.
