Join us on a trip to the best belay ledges in Queenstown

Description

We will be going to Queenstown for a club trip on the weekend of the 17th/18th December.

Saturday will be spent exploring the climbs at Wye Creek. Choose your own adventure with plenty of easy, moderate or hard sport climbs, all backdropped by classic Lake Wakatipu views.

Sunday climbing will probably be at Kingston. A range of routes here including short multipitch.

This is an open invite to NZAC and non-NZAC members, with priority given to members. These crags have a range of walls with climbs for people of all abilities. So beginner climbers are very welcome if they have solid belaying skills.

Getting There

We will leave Dunedin on Friday afternoon (16th December) and carpool to Queenstown. We may end up staying somewhere on the way, either freedom camping or staying at a holiday park.

On Saturday night we will enjoy the relative comfort of the Kingston Top10 Holiday Park. Showers and kitchen facilities. Tenting of course!

What to Expect

Wye Creek is on a hill and has a 45 minute approach (gasp!). Make sure you're okay with that if you sign up.

There'll be heaps of climbing. Having said that, it can get extremely hot during some parts of the day - so expect a decent amount of chill time soaking in the atmosphere, too.

Possible Hazards

Standard rock climbing hazards such as falling, rock fall and other overhead hazards, heat exhaustion and hypothermia. Uneven terrain along the bottom of the walls, too.

Keep the trip covid free. Practice good hygiene. If sick then rest up in Dunedin and watch the Dawn Wall.
