Description
Ski touring Trip with the objective of mt Kohurau (2009m) or Awakino back bowls, if the snow looks better.
The
tour is easy and requires a moderate level of fitness and off piste ski
ability.
More challenging terrain is available for the keen ones.
If there is not enough snow at Awakino, we will consider another location and run through the team.
Getting There
Day trip - meet at 6.45am (Dunedin) and car pool on 4WD via Kurow and access via Awakino ski field.
Participants number is dependent on 4WD availability. Return to town by about 7pm at the latest.
What to Expect
The tour suits beginners who have had previous touring experience and want to move further away into remote places.Moderate level of fitness is required with a climb of about 800m+.

Avalanche - everyone must have an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. The area is not covered by a report thus will make our own assessment and select our terrain on that.
Driving on icy roads - chains are a good idea if snowy
Slips, trips and falls etc - sign up if you if you think are suitable for the trip and have the correct equipment. Ski-crampons or any other sharps are recommended.
All decisions will be made as a group but for any safety critical (IE avalanche assessments, individual fitness etc), the trip leader will have the last say. Please respect it.
Gear
Minimal gear required is:- ski touring/ split boarding set up
- avalanche kit: digital transceiver, shovel and probe
- lunch and drinks
- ski crampons (or crampons/axe) are strongly recommended
Avalanche Kits are available for Hire with the NZAC section in Dunedin
